About the Port
Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, capital of Ecuador's Galápagos province, sits on San Cristóbal Island, one of the archipelago's oldest volcanic landmasses. Its palm-lined malecón is famously shared with sea lions, while the nearby Interpretation Center traces the islands' geological and human history. A walking trail leads up Cerro Tijeretas, a hillside overlook where frigatebirds nest and Charles Darwin is said to have first come ashore in 1835.
Beyond town, Kicker Rock rises from the sea as a striking eroded formation popular for snorkeling and diving among rays, sharks, and sea turtles. The compact center of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is easily explored on foot from the pier, making it a convenient base for excursions into the surrounding national park.
