About the Port
Founded in 1608, Quebec City rises on a rocky headland above the St. Lawrence River, its fortified Old Town ringed by ramparts, gates, and cannons that make it the only walled city remaining north of Mexico. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage City, it stands as the cradle of French America, its cobblestone lanes, historic squares, and centuries-old stone buildings evoking a European atmosphere rarely found on the continent.
Atop the cliffs, the iconic Chateau Frontenac dominates the skyline, while La Citadelle and the open lawns of the Plains of Abraham recall the city's military past. The Old Town's Upper and Lower districts are easily explored on foot from the pier, linked by steep stairways and a funicular. Beyond the walls, the Grande-Allee offers a lively stretch of cafes and townhouses just outside the historic core.
