About the Port
Tucked within the Buccaneer Archipelago along Western Australia's rugged Kimberley coast, Talbot Bay is famed for its so-called horizontal falls, where extreme tidal surges force seawater through two narrow rock gorges, creating a churning, temporary cascade unlike any other on earth. The surrounding landscape is a maze of ancient red sandstone ranges, mangrove-lined inlets, and turquoise water, largely untouched and accessible only by sea or air.
There is no town or settlement here, and vessels anchor offshore, with smaller boats used to explore the bay's gorges and observe the tidal phenomenon up close. Wildlife sightings, including reef sharks and seabirds, are common in these waters. The setting offers a rare glimpse of the Kimberley's raw, elemental beauty, best appreciated on a calm-water excursion timed to the tides.
