About the Port
Tallinn's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, rises directly from the harbor in a tangle of cobbled lanes, guild houses, and spires that recall its centuries as a Hanseatic League stronghold. Toompea Castle crowns the hill at its center, while St. Olav's Church and merchant-era facades line streets that have changed little since the medieval trading days that built the city's fortunes.
Beyond the walls, Baroque architecture from the era of Peter the Great signals a later chapter of imperial influence, and cafés and boutiques now fill buildings once occupied by merchants and craftsmen. The Old Town sits within easy walking distance of the pier, making it simple to explore its churches, towers, and squares on foot before venturing into the newer districts that surround the historic core.
