Day: 1
Nestled at the foot of Mount Meru in northern Tanzania, Arusha is your gateway to safari adventures in the region, a bustling hub for explorers like you. Unwind after your flight and prepare for the next day’s journey.
Day: 2
Fly to Ndutu and continue overland to Ngorongoro Crater Camp, set near the crater floor in the Ndutu Conservation Area. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken ancient caldera in the world and a likely place to view lions, elephants, hyenas and gazelles. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive around the conservation area.
Day: 3
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater to explore the panoramic, game-rich prairies of this ancient volcanic caldera. With its crater walls nearly 2,000 feet high, Ngorongoro offers the safari experience of a lifetime. Observe profuse and diverse wildlife roaming freely in an authentic “Lost World,” where it’s possible to encounter every member of the Big Five in a single day.
Day: 4
Revel in another visit to Ngorongoro Crater — which, thanks to your camp’s ideal location is a short drive from the crater floor — to view the resident wildlife at its most active time of day. Watch for buffalo and elephants as well as the countless other species. You may even sight flamingos (when in season) or rare black rhinos. This afternoon, set out on another game drive through the lush Ndutu Conservation Area.
Day: 5
Fly to the Serengeti, one of the planet's biggest and most iconic wildlife havens. Stretching all the way from the Ngorongoro Highlands almost to Lake Victoria (an area about the size of New Jersey), it presents the oldest and largest ecosystem on the planet. It is home to more than three million large animals across dozens of species, including enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras along with the predators who stalk them. Touch down at a local airstrip and then drive to your camp, set among sweeping grasslands, open plains and rocky kopjes. Kichakani Camp affords a front-row seat to the annual Great Migration and the Serengeti’s year-round wildlife spectacle.
Day: 6
Revel in true safari country, searching for iconic species such as lions, leopards, Cape buffalo and elephants, as well as giraffes, gazelle and zebras. Along the rivers and rocky outcrops, you may also spot some of the Serengeti's more diminutive denizens, such as leopard tortoises and rhinoceros beetles.
Day: 7
During a final day in the Serengeti, head out on morning and afternoon game drives for another chance to see the iconic species you’ve waited a lifetime to see, perhaps watching the circle of life play out before your eyes and bearing witness to the sweeping, dusty majestic of the Great Migration in action.
Day: 8
Fly to Arusha and have lunch before driving across the border into Kenya and continuing to Amboseli National Park, home to prolific herds of elephants. Spanning 150 square miles of Kenyan savanna, woodlands, wetlands and ephemeral lakebed — with Mount Kilimanjaro’s distinctive profile as its centerpiece — this iconic park also harbors giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, lions and hundreds of bird species. Settle into your Maasai-inspired luxury lodge, located on a private concession adjoining the park. This afternoon, head out across the dusty plains on your first game drive.
Day: 9
Watch elephants and other game such as Cape buffalo, wildebeest, hippos and hyenas up close. Head out this afternoon to seek out more of East Africa’s natural wonders. Keep a timeless safari tradition with a refreshing drink in the bush.
Day: 10
Revel in one more day tracking big game in Kenya, perhaps to capture that idyllic photo of the park’s elephants backdropped by snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro or catch a glimpse of a cheetah bolting after its prey. Look to the sky as well to observe any of the 400 species of birds living here, such as African fish eagles, flamingos, pelicans and grey crowned cranes. Later, toast your incredible safari journey over dinner under Africa’s glittering night sky.
Day: 11
Fly to Nairobi, where you relax in a reserved dayroom before transferring to the airport for your departing flight.
