ITINERARY

Day: 1
Nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru, tranquil Gran Meliá Arusha sits on 18 evergreen acres of surrounding coffee and tea plantations. Unwind after your flight and prepare for the next day’s journey.

Day: 2
Fly to Tarangire National Park, a land of giants where herds of up to 300 elephants and ancient baobab trees showcase nature's grandeur. The park’s most outstanding feature is the Tarangire River, the only reliable dry-season source of water available to wildlife in a vast stretch of Tanzania's Rift Valley, ensuring this park is home to abundant wildlife. Arrive at your camp, set in a secluded area of the park for a more exclusive safari experience. Swala Camp's large tents are built on raised decks under umbrella acacia trees overlooking a popular watering hole. The layout of this eco-friendly abode is very open, with resident herds of impala often grazing in camp. Settle in before setting out on your first game drive.

Day: 3
Embark on morning and afternoon game drives to explore Tarangire National Park. Look out for a stunning concentration of animals — herds of elephants, impala and zebras — along with pythons or the twitching tail of a leopard possibly lurking above in a sausage tree. Upon returning to camp, take a refreshing cool down in the pool before dinner.

Day: 4
Fly to the Serengeti, one of the planet's biggest and most iconic wildlife havens. Stretching all the way from the Ngorongoro Highlands to Lake Victoria (an area almost the size of New Jersey), it presents the oldest and largest ecosystem on the planet. It is home to more than three million large animals across dozens of species, including enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras along with the predators who stalk them. Kichakani Camp is set among sweeping grasslands, open plains and rocky kopjes, affording a front-row seat to the annual Great Migration and the Serengeti’s year-round wildlife spectacle.

Day: 5
Revel in true safari country, searching for iconic species such as lions, leopards, Cape buffalo and elephants, as well as giraffes, gazelle and zebras. Along the rivers and rocky outcrops, you may also spot some of the Serengeti's more diminutive denizens, such as leopard tortoises and rhinoceros beetles.

Day: 6
Fly to Arusha, have lunch, and then drive across the border into Kenya before continuing to Amboseli, fitting in a game drive en route that affords you a first glimpse of the amazing wildlife roaming the area. Upon arrival, proceed to your captivating luxury lodge. A brand-new property carefully constructed on a 128-acre private concession adjoining the park, its design is at once strikingly innovative and deeply rooted in the elements of its environment, inspired by Maasai principles of living in harmony with nature.

Day: 7
Head out on a full day of safari adventure, watching for iconic African species such as lions, cheetahs, Cape buffalo, giraffes and large herds of elephants, on morning and afternoon game drives in Amboseli National Park. Get up close to the animal action with an expert guide in custom safari vehicles designed for unobstructed viewing from every seat. Look to the treetops and sky for any of the more than 400 kinds of birds living here, from pelicans and secretary birds to ostriches, martial eagles and perhaps even flamingos.

Day: 8
Venture forth on a morning game drive or enjoy an optional hot air balloon ride (at an additional cost), viewing the park’s expansive terrain and its wild inhabitants from a new perspective. On your game drives today, note the range of habitats and topography, from wetland to plains to forest, each favoring a different group of animals. You may witness hippos wallowing in a muddy pool, giraffes snatching leaves from branches high above or wildebeest roaming the golden grasslands as they have for millennia.

Day: 9
Fly to Nairobi, where you relax in a reserved dayroom before transferring to the airport for your departing flight.
