Days 1-2
Journey by motorized dugout canoe up the Pequeni River in
the Chagres National Park to the Ember? Puru Indian community.
Witness the developing community co-existing within the watershed
of the Panama Canal and view their beautiful handicrafts.
Day 3
Panama is well-known for the canal, and today you see it
from a perspective other visitors do not: from a fast boat speeding
past and through the locks. Travel on Lake Gatun, navigating up the
waterway past jungle islands and vessels.
Day 4
Drive to Soberania National Park, an area of dense
rainforest. In addition to abundant bird life, you may also see
howler monkey, anteater and agouti.
Day 5
Visit Portobelo, a town once known for its trading fairs.
Fleets of military and merchant ships came here to trade their
goods for gold and silver. Later, drive to Col?n, where you ride the
elegant Panama Canal Railroad across the isthmus to Panama City.
Day 6
Fly to David in the Chiriqui province, an area characterized
by volcanic highlands, waterfalls, rivers and rugged peaks. Visit
Finca Dracula, a private orchid farm, and later check in to your
mountain resort nestled at the foot of the dormant Baru Volcano.
Day 7
Meet the owners of Finca Hartman, a small family-operated
farm that produces shade-grown coffee, for a tour.
Day 8
Travel to Cerro Punta to explore Finca Spaulding
and El Respingo. The Los Quetzales Trail, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, unites Cerro Punta with the community of Boquete
and is one of Panama's most popular hiking locations. Search for
resident quetzal, black and yellow silky flycatcher and volcano
hummingbird.
Depart the next day.
