Day 1
Journey to Shilin to the extraordinary Stone Forest. Next,
visit several Sani villages; the Sani are a branch of the Han I ethnic
minority, the first among the many you will meet.
Day 2
Fly southwards to Jinghong, the capital of Xishuangbanna,
the only tropical nature reserve zone in China. Travel to Menghai's
Aini village and tea plantation to learn about their unique and
colorful highland culture.
Day 3
A full day excursion brings you to the Ye Xiang Gu Park
(Wild Elephant Valley), home to some 250 elephants, the single
greatest concentration of elephants in China.
Day 4
Cruise along the Mekong River to a remote Shui Dai
village. Return to Jinghong and transfer to Lijiang, gateway to
Yunnan's alpine region. Settle into your exquisite resort, with
panoramic views of the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Day 5
Visit Baisha, the first capital of the Naxi Kingdom, and
Longquan, a tranquil rural Naxi community. Back in Lijiang, go
to Black Dragon Pool Park (Heilongtan) and Dongha Museum
to learn about Naxi religious traditions and history. This evening,
attend a traditional Naxi dance and musical performance.
Day 6
Drive along the great Yunnan/Tibet Highway to
Zhongdian, with stops at the charming village of Shigu (Stone
Drum) that sits above the historic First Bend in the Yangzi River,
and the stunning Tiger Leaping Gorge where the thundering waters
of the Yangzi cut one of the most dramatic gorges in the world.
Day 7
Reflect in the Songzangling Monastery, the largest Tibetan
Monastery in Yunnan, and the traditional Khampa Tibetan
village of Ringha. Hike to the summit of the sacred hill of Ringha
(Dabaosi) and visit with local farming families.
Day 8
Explore the Napa Hai reserve, a protected wetland and
forest region; Penzira, a busy Tibetan trade center located along the
upper reaches of the Yangzi River and the village of Gongzhou.
Day 9
Transfer to the airport to board your homebound flight.
