American Cruise Lines Recent Press Releases
Guilford, CT—March 14, 2024— American Cruise Lines announces an exciting summer season of New England cruises—the only coastal itineraries in the region that visit only U.S. ports of call. On these exclusive sailings, most guests can leave their passports at home and explore the region’s picturesque coastlines, islands, historic ports, and seaside villages, just as they would along one of the company’s domestic river cruises. American’s 2024 New England season features 6 small ships, including three new Coastal Cats, sailing a selection of 8 to 15-Day itineraries, including brand new Yankee Seaports cruises between Boston, MA, and New York City, and new Hudson River Summer Classic cruises, roundtrip from New York City.
American’s coastal itineraries throughout New England are the only overnight cruise explorations that remain fully in the U.S.A. throughout the entire journey. Calling on over twenty New England Ports from May through September, American’s small ships operate like river cruises, docking in the heart of each destination along every itinerary. Guests enjoy scenic views from private balcony staterooms, authentic lobsterbakes, and guided shoreside experiences.
The Line’s itineraries highlight the historic towns and quaint villages that have made New England a famous maritime destination for centuries. American’s small ships visit ports in Plymouth, Bar Harbor, Bangor, Nantucket, Martha’s Vinyard, Block Island, Newport, Gloucester, and many more. Guests can
unpack just once, while discovering storied harbors with ease, and in many cases, arriving to each just as they could on a private yacht. American’s New England cruise itineraries also begin and end in convenient regional ports like Boston, MA; New York City; Providence, RI; Bar Harbor, ME; and Bangor,
ME; offering great options for the drive-to-cruise market, for guests who wish to skip flights and other summer travel hassles.
American Cruise Lines’ 2024 collection of exclusive New England sailings include:
15-Day Grand New England cruises, roundtrip from Boston, MA
11-Day New England Explorer cruises, roundtrip from Boston, MA
8-Day Cape Codder cruises, roundtrip from Boston, MA
8-Day New England Islands cruises, roundtrip from Providence, RI
8-Day Maine Coast and Harbors cruises, roundtrip from Portland, ME

This summer, the company is also offering brand-new 8-Day Hudson River Summer Classic cruises sailing roundtrip from NYC. For many years, American has offered fall sailings on the Hudson River, and due to their enormous popularity, the Line has decided to expand their 2024 offerings, with new June
sailings discovering the Hudson Valley.
“Exploring coastal New England in summertime, especially from the water, is an unforgettable experience,” said Melissa Young, Director of Business Development for American Cruise Lines. “And while some large ship lines sail parts of this region, none can cruise it the way American’s small U.S ships
do—sailing protected waters, accessing local harbors where big ships don’t go, and never visiting a foreign port of call.”
American’s small ship fleet and array of New England itineraries has grown tremendously in 2024, with six ships operating throughout the Northeast all summer, and 19 ships sailing around the country through December. The company’s curated itineraries are highlighted with onboard experts, historians,
authors, and evening entertainment that brings each region’s history and charm to life. Cruising aboard new, spacious small ships, guests will enjoy gourmet cuisine, daily cocktails, and the finest amenities available in small ship cruising. Cruises from Boston also offer a Four Seasons Pre-cruise Package.
Guilford, CT— February 21, 2024 — American Cruise Lines is pleased to announce that the company’s Mississippi River season opened yesterday, with the first guests of the season arriving in New Orleans. Over the next few weeks, all five of the company’s Mississippi riverboats will begin cruising on the Lower Mississippi. 2024 will mark the company’s largest season ever across the country, especially on the Mississippi where American has plans for continued expansion. This year, the company’s new riverboats will sail more than 16 itineraries throughout the region, also exploring Mississippi tributaries, the Tennessee, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers.
In just the past five years, American Cruise Lines has nearly tripled its U.S. fleet while also introducing brand new riverboats on the Mississippi River every year since 2018. The company recently announced 5 more ships, including new riverboats, which are under construction at American’s affiliated shipyard, Chesapeake Shipbuilding, in Salisbury, MD. Following this week’s opening on the Mississippi, the company’s full fleet of 19 other small ships and riverboats will continue deploying across the country, visiting over 140 U.S. ports this year.
American Cruise Lines remains the only company offering two distinct styles of riverboat for exploring U.S. rivers, as well as several categories of small cruise ships that sail U.S. coasts in the same manner as the Line’s River cruises. Most recently, American has received acclaim for a new series of 12 small coastal cruise ships, dubbed Project Blue, which sail exclusive itineraries up and down the East Coast.
While American continues expansion plans along U.S. coastal waterways, the Line is also stepping up production along U.S. rivers, especially the Mississippi. More details on the company’s newest riverboats, and all ships under construction, will be forthcoming as the year progresses.
American’s ongoing development along the Mississippi has contributed millions annually to a growing number of U.S. ports and communities throughout the Mississippi River region. The company’s innovative new riverboats and unique itinerary offerings have also resulted in many new opportunities for American’s guests.
In May of this year, American will begin operating several new Mississippi River experiences, including the first Great Smoky Mountains National Parks cruises. An exclusive new itinerary that allows guests to explore in Great Smoky Mountains National Park along a 12-Day itinerary from Knoxville, TN, to Nashville, TN, cruising the Ohio, Tennessee, and Cumberland Rivers. Also in May, the company’s first new 35-Day Civil War Battlefields cruise will depart. This remarkable exploration cruises the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Cumberland Rivers as well as large expanses of the East Coast, and Chesapeake Bay, while visiting over 20 Battlefields of the Civil War. In August, American will sail a historic 61-Day Great United States cruise—the longest river cruise in U.S. History—that explores the entire Mississippi River, 20 states, 3 national parks, 4 rivers, and also sails the East Coast and Hudson River; visiting storied ports from New York City, to Boston, Massachusetts, to Bar Harbor, Maine.
In 2024, American is proud to continue the company’s 50-year tradition of exploring the U.S.A. As the cruise line expands across America, more opportunities emerge year after year along the Mississippi River and beyond. The company’s unique cruises delight guests and continue to support historic sites, cultural venues, and American-owned businesses across the country.

American Extends Cruise with Comfort Plan and Protects Travel Advisor Commissions
Guilford, CT—May 12, 2020—American Cruise Lines announced today that it has extended its popular Cruise with Comfort program and will continue to protect 100% of travel advisor commissions on all Cruise with Comfort bookings. The program will now include all cruises departing through October 31st, 2020 and may be applied to both new and existing bookings. American implemented Cruise with Comfort earlier this year to provide flexibility to both guests and travel advisors, as they navigate the difficult travel decisions surrounding COVID-19.
Cruise with Comfort allows guests to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before the start of their cruise and receive Cruise Vouchers for 100% of amounts paid. The plan has been popular among guests for the peace of mind it creates, and has been extremely well received by travel advisors because it protects all commissions based on the original sailing date. If a guest cancels their cruise, even just one day before traveling, the travel advisor is compensated fully for their work.
Earlier this year American also rolled out its Travel Advisor Assurance Plan which contains some of the most guest and agent friendly policies in the river cruise industry. Under the Travel Advisor Assurance Plan, commissions that are affected by Cruise with Comfort or by suspended cruise operations will be 100% commission protected for Cruise Vouchers issued.
“Our travel advisor partners have appreciated our commission policy in particular, because it compensates them sooner than later for their efforts,” said Susan Shultz, Vice President of Trade Relations for American. “Plus, Cruise with Comfort has helped advisors sell, because it allows guests the ability to cancel their cruise up to 24-hours before the cruise begins and still retain the full value of their cruise.”

American Cruise Lines Travel Advisor Assurance Plan
Guilford, CT—March 24, 2020—American Cruise Lines has unveiled its full Travel Advisor Assurance Plan following the Line’s voluntary decision to suspend cruise operations through April 30th, 2020. The new plan contains some of the most guest and agent friendly policies in the river cruise industry. Most significantly, the plan includes assurance from American that it will protect Travel Advisor commissions for bookings impacted by COVID-19.
Earlier this month, American proactively rolled out flexible new options for guests and has now bundled them into one simple Travel Advisor Assurance Plan for agents.
Cruise with Comfort: This new option offers flexibility to guests for all new and existing bookings on cruises departing through August 31st, 2020. Guests that opt for this offer have the ability to cancel for any reason up to 24-hours prior to the start of their Cruise Package and to receive Cruise Vouchers equal to 100% of the amounts paid.
Suspended Cruise Options: Guests booked on any cruises that have been suspended by American will have the option to receive a full money-back refund or Cruise Vouchers equal to 125% of all amounts paid for their Cruise Package. American has been contacting guests and travel advisors directly about their options for cruises suspended due to COVID-19.
Commissions: Advisor commissions that could be affected by either Cruise with Comfort or suspended operations will be 100% commission protected for Cruise Vouchers issued. Commissions will be paid based on the original sailing date for any payments made toward commissionable items.
“Our travel advisor partners have appreciated our commission policy in particular, because it compensates them sooner than later for their efforts,” said Susan Shultz, VP of Trade Relations. “Plus, Cruise with Comfort has helped advisors sell, because it allows guests the ability to cancel their cruise up to 24-hours before the cruise begins.”
“Over the past year, we have worked consistently to offer the most competitive travel advisor programs in the industry,” said Charles B. Robertson, President and CEO of American. “These changes have been very well received because they give guests the confidence to book travel, and they give advisors prompt compensation for their efforts. They reinforce our strength as a company, our commitment to our guests, and our gratitude to our travel advisor partners.”

American Cruise Lines to Accelerate Expansion 3 New Riverboats to Debut in the Next 20 Months
GUILFORD, CT—February 26, 2020—American Cruise Lines announced today that it will launch two additional modern riverboats for the 2021 season. Construction is already underway on the new riverboats and will ramp up as American Jazz, the Line’s 3rd modern riverboat, is readied for its 2020 debut in New Orleans.
The two riverboats coming next year will be sister ships to the American Harmony and American Jazz, but will feature new design elements that appeal to today’s discerning travelers. Further design enhancements will be unveiled later this year.
“These new ships show our continued commitment to leading the Mississippi River cruise market,” said Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of American Cruise Lines. “The American fleet is already unrivaled and the new riverboats will allow us to continue to roll out innovative amenities that enhance
guest experiences.” All three new ships are being built at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, MD, an affiliate of American Cruise Lines.
“Chesapeake Shipbuilding is well-suited to increase production output,” said Steve McGee, President of Chesapeake Shipbuilding. “We have five hull fabrication buildings and more than 1,000 feet of deep water bulkhead to build and outfit multiple ships at the same time.”
American’s series of modern riverboats ushered in a new era of river cruising in the U.S. The Line introduced the country’s 1st modern riverboat in 2018, with the historic debut of the series flagship, American Song. The 2nd modern riverboat, American Harmony, was introduced in 2019 and the 3rd, American Jazz, begins cruising the Mississippi in 2020.
American Cruise Lines has introduced 5 new ships since 2017, including new coastal ships, and will have 14 ships cruising in 2021. By expanding both its river and coastal fleet, American is able to offer an unprecedented number of itineraries across the country.

American Sets Sales Records River Cruising is More Popular Than Ever in the U.S.A.
GUILFORD, CT—February 24, 2020—American Cruise Lines announced today the strongest start to Wave Season in the company’s history. Wave Season, the cruise industry term for first quarter sales, has surpassed company expectations, with records broken in nearly every category. Demand for small ship cruises across the U.S.A. has been on the rise for some time according to American.
The company attributes much of the recent growth to the introduction of its modern riverboat series. The new riverboats offer contemporary styling with an open airy design that brings the outside world in. “Our new riverboats provide the fresh atmosphere for U.S. River cruising that today’s travelers are seeking,” says Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of the Line. “The modern riverboats offer everything that American is already well known for, most importantly our small guest capacity, but they also add modern sophistication that appeals to a broader market of river cruise consumer.” Only American offers the finest U.S. river cruises aboard both paddlewheelers and new modern riverboats.
The record sales also come amid American’s new Cruise Close to Home™ advertising campaign which launched late last year. “The new campaign was designed to remind travelers that the finest river cruising experiences are available right here in the U.S.A. with an experienced all American company,” said Robertson. The Line estimates that 90% of Americans can drive to its cruises, skipping flights and additional travel hassles. American’s fleet of new small ships operate from February through December each year, departing from ports conveniently located across the country.
