Puerto Madryn, Argentina
Argentina's finest wool originates from the Patagonian city of Puerto Madryn, where pioneers from Scotland and England once settled on small farms and sheep ranches. Thecity lies on the shores of the Golfo Nuevo, along the southern coast of Argentina, and although not particularly blessed with buildings of great architectural significance or beautiful scenery, it is nonetheless recognized for its wonderful opportunities to view such wildlife as sea elephants, sea lions, penguins and birds.

Camarones, Argentina
Fringed by the Atlantic Ocean in Argentina's southern region of Patagonia, Camarones is a quiet town known for its beaches, water sports and fishing industry. Former Argentinian president Juan Domingo Perón lived in Camarones as a child and his home now serves as a museum showcasing the family's history. Among the town's other attractions is the nearby Cabo Dos Bahías, a nature reserve boasting a colony of Magellanic penguins as well as sea lions, fur seals, guanacos, foxes, and cormorants.

Puerto Deseado, Argentina
On the southeastern shores of Argentina, Puerto Deseado is a tranquil fishing port situated along the Ría Deseado, a magnificent estuary and nature reserve once explored by Charles Darwin. A habitat for numerous species of seabirds and marine wildlife, visitors might spot sea lions, penguins, cormorants or the rare Commerson's dolphin. The town features a number of museums, including one displaying artifacts from the British warship HMS Swift, which sank off the coast of Deseado in 1776.

Isla Pinguino, Argentina
Situated off Argentina's southeastern coast, the small, rugged Isla Pingüino (Penguin Island) is part of the Isla Pingüino Coastal Marine Park, which encompasses nearly 720 square miles of pristine sea and shoreline. Charles Darwin's famous voyage aboard HMS Beagle explored the region in 1833. The protected area is home to an abundance of wildlife, including sea lions, elephant seals, and red-legged cormorants. The aptly named island is a popular nesting spot for southern rockhopper penguins.

New Island, Falkland Islands [Malvinas]

Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, Falkland Islands [Malvinas]
Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands – an archipelago long of importance to both scientists and seaman located some 350 miles east of Tierra del Fuego, 1,000 miles north of Antarctica and, as the locals claim, a mere 8,000 miles from Britain. Explore the Historic Dockyard Museum with galleries dedicated to maritime exploration, Antarctic heritage and the 1982 Falklands War. See the whalebone arch near Christ Church Cathedral, and look for magellanic penguins gathering at Gypsy Cove.

Punta Arenas, Chile
Chile’s southernmost city of Punta Arenas (Sandy Point) is the only city situated on the Strait of Magellan, a 300-mile waterway which cuts a swath between the mainland and the island of Tierra del Fuego. It is also the bustling center of one of the world's largest sheep farming areas, with major exports of wool and mutton. A wealth of sightseeing options includes private air charters over Antarctica, museums bringing yesteryear alive, and explorations deep into Patagonia’s frontier regions.

Ushuaia, Argentina
Ushuaia lies on the triangular-shaped island of Tierra del Fuego. While Ferdinand Magellan was exploring the straits between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in 1520, he was amazed by the smoke and fires which seemed to appear at every turn. These fires, kept continuously alight by the Yaghan and Ona Indians, became the inspiration for the name "Tierra del Fuego," Land of Fire.
