Day 2 – The best of Beijing
Spend the day discovering the city’s Imperial sites at a leisurely pace with your own personal car, driver and guide. Stand in Tiananmen Square, one of the grandest public plazas in the world, and explore the palaces, courtyards, and pavilions of the Forbidden City #WHS#, once the exclusive domain of China’s Emperors. Marvel at the Temple of Heaven #WHS#, an extraordinary feat of Ming Dynasty engineering and design, and then tour the lovely Summer Palace #WHS#, erstwhile seasonal retreat of royalty. Day 3 – Excursion to the Great Wall
The historic Juyong Pass is a bit more remote from the capital, but with smaller crowds, this lesser-visited section of the Great Wall #WHS# promises a more authentic and rewarding experience. Later, you’ll walk along the statue-lined Sacred Way to visit Changling Tomb, the most impressive of the Ming Tombs #WHS#. Meals B,L
Day 4 – Fly to Xian
Transfer to the airport for your included flight to Xian, the ancient capital of China for 13 dynasties. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and chauffeured to the lovely Hilton Hotel, nicely located within the city walls. Meals B
Day 5 – Xian’s Terra Cotta Warriors
Today’s Privately Guided sightseeing begins with the magnificent Terra Cotta Army #WHS#, China’s greatest archaeological discovery! At the excavation site, you’ll have ample time to marvel at this vast army, thousands strong, which was buried 2,000 years ago to guard the tomb of an emperor. Visit the ancient defensive walls of the city before returning to your hotel. Meals B,L
Day 6 – Onward to Shanghai
You’ll be chauffeured to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, transfer by private car to the Le Royal Meridien, ideally located in the heart of this sophisticated and vibrant city. Meals B
Day 7 – Full-day private car sightseeing
Your unhurried exploration of the city begins in tranquil Yu Yuan Garden, laid out by a Ming Dynasty Court Official. Then explore the Old City Bazaar before sitting down to a lunch of regional dishes. Continue your sightseeing at the Shanghai Museum, filled with a priceless collection spanning thousands of years of Chinese culture. Then drive along the Bund, Shanghai’s graceful waterfront boulevard, and explore Pudong, filled with the 21st-century skyscrapers which have come to define modern China.
