Destination & Sightseeing

Day 1 - Our Journey Begins
Head south through the gentle rolling hills of Illinois and Missouri. Tonight’s dinner, hosted by your Tour Manager, is at the “home of throwed rolls.” (Dinner)

Day 2 - Arrive in New Orleans
The excitement, charm and history of New Orleans await as you continue through the lush countryside of Mississippi and Louisiana. We arrive New Orleans and check in to our downtown hotel, where you will feel the excitement in the air. (Breakfast)

Day 3 - City Tour and National WWII Museum
Begin with a narrated tour of New Orleans. See the sights you’ve heard about for years such as the historic French Quarter, the beautiful Garden District, the colorful River Walk along the Mississippi and famous Bourbon Street. See New Orleans as the city prepares for the biggest celebration of the year, Mardi Gras, with its colorful costumes, parades and parties. Enjoy free time on own in the “Quarter” for lunch or maybe some beignets and coffee at Café du Monde. Later, visit the National WWII Museum. Celebrate the American Spirit as you experience moving personal stories, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays. From the Normandy invasion to the sands of Pacific Islands, the Museum salutes the optimism, courage and sacrifice of those who won the war and changed the world. Dinner tonight is at Court of Two Sisters, a unique dining experience on a site named for Emma and Bertha Camors whose ‘rabais,’ or notions, outfitted many of the city’s finest women with formal gowns, lace and perfumes imported from Paris. (Breakfast and dinner)

Day 4 - Louisiana Swamps and Magnificent Homes
For a different view of Louisiana today, journey by boat through the heart of the southern swamplands. See moss-draped cypress trees and native wildlife as your guide shares local legends and lore. Be on the lookout for exotic wildlife, brilliant flora and the king of the swamp, the alligator. Back in New Orleans, take a guided tour of Longue Vue House and Gardens, one of the last great homes to be custom-built in America and contains its original furnishings. An unusual feature of the house is that it has a basement, not common since most of the city is below sea level. Also stop at The Elms Mansion, a magnificent post-Civil War mansion built by a wealthy railroad executive and nephew of Jefferson Davis. Tonight, dinner and cooking demonstration is at the New Orleans School of Cooking. Located in the heart of the French Quarter, you will learn the basics of Louisiana cooking from well-known local chefs. (Breakfast and dinner)

Day 5 - Mardi Gras World and Pre-Mardi Gras Parade
This morning learn what goes into the making of the Mardi Gras parade floats at Mardi Gras World. Since 1947, the artists of Blaine Ken Studios have been bringing Mardi Gras to life, creating many of the parade floats, from concept through completion. The colors, the lights, the music, the “joie de vivre” is all in one magical place. Later, enjoy the excitement of Mardi Gras’ parades from reserved bleacher seats and cheer on the “Krewes” who sponsor the floats. Delight in their ornate costumes and royal courts and try to catch some of the gold, purple and green beads being thrown from the floats. Be sure to sample Kings Cakes, a traditional Mardi Gras treat. (Breakfast and lunch)

Day 6 - North to Missouri
Bid a fond farewell to New Orleans and sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery as you begin our journey home. Gather tonight with your new-found friends for a farewell dinner hosted by your Tour Manager. (Breakfast and dinner)

Day 7 - Return Home
Return home with fond memories of New Orleans and the Pre-Mardi Gras celebration. (Breakfast)
