Hitting our first port on an Alaska cruise

Although RSSC offers several free shore excursions in Ketchikan we opted to go off on our own. We’ve been here many times.
It was chilly and rainy but we had the right gear and Regent gives you umbrellas. Since it’s the end of the cruise season in Alaska there were many items on sale in the shops. And eager passengers were scooping them up.
We started the day with a lovely room service breakfast. Fresh celery juice which was off the menu but no problem because that’s Regent. Perfect poached eggs with bacon and an egg white omelet with Gruyere cheese. Toast and cappuccinos. What a way to start your day.
Hitting the gym
After our walk around town we returned to our cozy concierge suite to change for the Canyon Ranch Spa fitness center for a workout. The room is immaculate and stocked with all the tools for fitness.
Well soon it was lunch time and up to the Veranda we went for the buffet and wine.
An evening to remember
Last night we had drinks in the Observation lounge before dinner at the Italian venue, Sette Mari. I love drinking elegant kir imperials (all beverages are free) as much as Richard enjoys his martinis.
Then we headed over to Sette Mari at La Veranda wthere we were welcome back and escorted to a lovely window table to begin a feast of antipastis, gnocchi, branzino, veal, wines and desserts. Note to self: gym tomorrow.

The breads will wreck your waistline, soooo good. And so will this tiramisu served buffet-style at Sette Mari.
There were plenty of activities on tap today for those who didn’t venture ashore. Plus there are movies to watch in the cabin, a golf cage and fun and games. The casino opens after we sail from Ketchikan and then there’s dancing, a Broadway show and even a ‘Jukester Jukebox’ on which to play more than 7,000 tunes on a touch screen.
We will write more details on the Mariner in future posts. There are so many special details and amenities to talk about. One is the high quality of toiletries provided in the loo.
And the high count sheets, towels and linens.
So come on back for more and do leave a comment.
