The storied Splendido returns to service in June
By Patti Pietschmann, Travel Diva
Staying at the Splendido in Portofino, Italy is a little slice of heaven.
The staff makes you feel like royalty. The food is fantastic. And it’s right in the heart of a storybook part of the country with trattorias and shops. It’s also where Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor returned time and again.
Picturesque Portofino is also where cruise passengers, usually off small luxury ships. arrive by launches.
And that’s how we first experienced the charming property. Our visit was part of a Silversea post cruise stop.
Our spectacular junior suite came with a balcony overlooking the precious port. Meals were an Italian delight. Lunch on the patio, dinner in a gorgeous room.
We also strolled down the hill for drinks at a local bar and dinner in a tiny trattoria. I can still remember the fantastic bronzino, crispy bread, Caesar salad and buttery house Chardonnay.
So it’s wonderful to hear that Splendido is reopening following the coronavirus-pause. Along with it, Belmond is also unlocking other hotels. These include:
- The Belmond Charleston Place will reopen on June 25
- July 1 is the start date to open Belmond Hotel Caruso and Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo.
- On the Fourth of July the Belmond Cadogan Hotel intends to open its doors.
Luxurious train travel
Fans of the Venice Simplon-Orient Express will be happy to hear it will be back on tracks July 8. Then on July 14 Belmond will resume operations at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.
