About the Port
Aappilattoq clings to a rocky shoreline near the southern tip of Greenland, its brightly painted houses set against steep granite peaks that rise straight from the water. The settlement sits along Prins Christian Sund, a roughly sixty-mile fjord often called Ikerasassuaq, where icebergs drift past sheer cliffs and narrow channels twist between the mountains. With only about a hundred permanent residents, it ranks among the country's smallest and most remote communities, and one of its southernmost.
There are no grand monuments here, only a working settlement of fishermen and hunters whose small harbor and tidy homes offer a rare, unfiltered glimpse of daily life on Greenland's edge. Visitors arrive by tender, since no pier accommodates larger vessels, and a short walk along the shore reveals the settlement's modest church and colorful houses in full.
