About the Port
Set along the Gulf of Corinth beneath the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Itea is a small port town best known as the arrival point for Delphi. The sanctuary, perched in the mountains above, was regarded by the ancient Greeks as the center of the world and remains one of the most significant archaeological sites in the country, with its temple ruins, theater, and museum drawing visitors year-round. The town itself sits amid vast groves of olive trees, part of the Amfissa region's long agricultural tradition.
Itea's waterfront is easily explored on foot from the pier, with a Blue Flag beach offering a place to relax before or after the trip inland. The surrounding landscape of silvery olive groves, known locally as the "sea of olives," adds to the town's understated appeal. Delphi itself lies roughly a half-hour drive from the port, making Itea a practical and low-key base for reaching the ancient site.
