About the Port
At the southeastern tip of Baffin Island, the Lower Savage Islands form a scattered archipelago of rocky islets carved by narrow channels and steep, weathered cliffs. Exposed to the open waters of Hudson Strait, the islands remain largely untouched, their terrain shaped by ice, wind, and tide rather than settlement. This remoteness makes them a haven for Arctic wildlife, including polar bears, Arctic foxes, walruses, and seals, alongside seabird colonies that nest along the rock faces.
Exploration here happens by small boat, threading through the maze of channels for close views of wildlife and dramatic coastal scenery otherwise inaccessible. No docking infrastructure exists, so all visits rely on tender or zodiac transfers directly from ship to shoreline.
