About the Port
Set on the eastern edge of Baffin Island, Qikiqtarjuaq is a small Inuit hamlet framed by jagged mountains and iceberg-strewn waters. Its name, meaning "big island" in Inuktitut, reflects a landscape shaped by sea ice that grips the coast for much of the year and recedes only briefly in late summer, opening a narrow window for ships to reach this remote community.
