Saglek Fjord, Labrador, Canada

A remote Arctic fjord that serves as the dramatic gateway to Torngat Mountains National Park

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Saglek Fjord cuts deep into the northern coast of Labrador, where sheer granite cliffs rise from glacial waters and waterfalls thread down valleys carved by ancient ice. The fjord marks the southern entry point to Torngat Mountains National Park, a vast wilderness whose Inuktitut name means "place of spirits," stretching north to Labrador's tip. Polar bears, caribou, and beluga whales inhabit this rugged Arctic landscape, largely untouched by development.

Park rangers and Inuit guides typically join visitors here, offering context on the region's geology, wildlife, and Indigenous history before excursions into the surrounding terrain. There are no towns or piers in the conventional sense; landings are made by tender directly onto the shoreline, and all activity depends on weather and ice conditions. Travelers come for the raw scale of the mountains and the rare chance to stand in one of North America's most remote and pristine corners.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Saglek Fjord.

Join a Ranger-Led Landing

Tender ashore with park rangers and Inuit guides for a walk through the tundra, learning firsthand about Torngat geology, wildlife safety, and Indigenous history. Bear monitors accompany all shore excursions here.

Scan the Cliffs for Wildlife

Watch for polar bears along the shoreline and beluga whales surfacing in the fjord's glacial waters from the deck or during a zodiac cruise. Bring binoculars—sightings happen fast and often at a distance.

Cruise Beneath the Granite Peaks

Take a small-boat excursion along the fjord to get close to waterfalls threading down thousand-foot cliffs, a vantage point no shore landing can match. Weather and ice conditions dictate the route, so timing shifts day to day.
