Trinidad & Tobago · Cruise Port Guide

Scarborough, Tobago

A laid-back Caribbean capital where volcanic hills meet coral reefs and unhurried island life.

About the Port

Scarborough sits on Tobago's southern coast, its harbor overlooked by Fort King George, a hilltop stronghold built by the British in the eighteenth century that offers sweeping views over the town and the Atlantic beyond. As the island's administrative capital, Scarborough blends a working port and market town with easy access to Tobago's quieter, less-developed charm compared to its sister island of Trinidad. Narrow streets climb from the waterfront past colorful wooden houses toward the fort and the small but worthwhile Tobago Museum.

Beyond the town, the island's interior rises into rainforest-covered hills protected as one of the oldest forest reserves in the Western Hemisphere, while nearby beaches and reefs draw snorkelers and divers. Scarborough's compact center is walkable from the pier, making it simple to explore the fort and market before venturing farther afield to the coastline or forest trails that define Tobago's unspoiled appeal.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Scarborough.

Snorkel Buccoo Reef

Glass-bottom boats run from nearby Pigeon Point and Bon Accord Lagoon out to this protected coral reef and the shallow Nylon Pool sandbar, a half-day trip best arranged ahead for a hassle-free return to the pier.

Hike the Main Ridge Forest Reserve

Established in 1776, this is the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere, laced with trails like the Gilpin Trace that reward an hour or two of walking with birdlife and jungle waterfalls; a taxi or guided tour is the easiest way in.

Relax on Pigeon Point Beach

Tobago's postcard beach of powder-white sand and thatched-roof jetties lies a short drive from Scarborough, offering calm turquoise water for a quick swim before returning to the ship.
