Star Clippers Announces New Central American Sailing Itineraries for Winter 2022-2023 Season

Miami, FL (March, 2021) – For the first time since 2014, Star Clippers will be calling on ports in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, as well as Panama and its famed canal, starting November 2022 as the Star Clipper sets sail for Central America. Sailings range from seven to 14 days (for Panama Canal crossings), with pricing starting at $1,560 per person based on double occupancy. For a limited time, guests residing in North, Central and South America can take advantage of an early booking promotion on all Central American sailings; details available by calling your travel advisor or Star Clippers at 800-442-0551.

A pair of seven-day sailings round trip out of Puerto Caldera call on favorite Costa Rican towns as well as ports in Panama or Nicaragua, depending on itinerary. The port town of Quepos, Costa Rica, located near the magnificent Manuel Antonio National Park, allows guests the opportunities to encounter monkeys, sloths, and nearly 450 species of birds that call the park home. The beaches on idyllic Isla Tortuga are ideal for snorkeling or taking a dip in the turquoise waters. In San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, the beaches offer incredible surfing, and guests can glimpse the Mirador del Cristo de la Misericordia statue at the northern end of the bay—one of the largest statues of Jesus in the world.

Two sailings between Balboa, Panama, and Costa Rica offer a deeper dive into Panama’s unique environment. The uninhabited Isla Iguana is a wildlife reserve located on Panama’s Pacific coast where guests can watch the colorful frigate birds fly in formation and visit expansive coral reefs containing more than 500 marine species including rare olive ridley sea turtles. Travelers looking for their “deserted island” moment will love Isla San Jose in the Pearl Islands, a 44 kilometer slice of paradise.

With more than 800 miles of coastline and spectacular coral reefs, Costa Rica offers incredible opportunities for snorkeling. Star Clippers water sports program allows guests to borrow snorkeling equipment for the duration of the sailing, which they can use to their hearts content.

Two Panama Canal sailings at the beginning and end of the season allow guests to experience the awe-inspiring feat of engineering firsthand. These 14-night journeys travel between Bridgetown, Barbados, and Balboa, Panama with ports of call in Aruba, Grenada and Columbia, among others.

For more than 25 years, Star Clippers has been introducing travelers to the thrill of modern tall ship sailing to remote ports in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. The company operates three of the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels: Star Clipper and Star Flyer are traditional clipper ships with modern amenities carrying 170 guests, while the 227-guest Royal Clipper holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest and only five-masted, full-rigged sailing ship in service today. All three ships have expansive teak decks, swimming pools, informal dining, convivial tropical bars on deck and piano lounges.

Embrace The Romance of Sailing the High Seas with Star Clippers

Miami, FL (February, 2020) – There’s something inherently romantic about a sailing vacation: the caress of warm, salt air on your skin; days spent strolling hand in hand through picturesque port towns and along pristine beaches; and vibrant sunsets viewed from a cozy, private spot on deck, champagne flutes in hand. Most compelling for couples seeking an amorous adventure is the opportunity to experience the rush of soaring across the ocean powered by the wind alone, full sails overhead and blue water below. For travelers looking to celebrate a honeymoon, anniversary, vow renewal, proposal or just a retreat for two, the romance of gliding into an exotic port aboard one of the world’s largest clipper ships under full sail is simply undeniable.

With sailing itineraries throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Bali and Thailand, Star Clippers’ ships offer a dreamy setting for couples looking to explore some of the world’s most beautiful destinations while feeling as though they’re sailing aboard a private yacht. Unlike the mega ships that sail these waters, Star Clippers’ ships hold between 170 and 227 passengers, making it possible to drop anchor remote harbors and visit off-the-beaten-path ports in romantic locales like the Italian Riviera and the Caribbean’s Treasure Islands.

Of course, opportunities to get close on board abound. A favorite spot for cozying up can be found in the bowsprit netting—a hammock-like area stretching 30 feet forward of the bow where guests can lay suspended over the ocean. In addition to affording one of the most unique and exciting settings on any cruise ship afloat, it’s also an ideal spot to spend some quiet time and maybe even pop the big question. More adventurous guests might opt to climb the mast to the Crow’s Nest for unbeatable views of the ocean, landscape and ship below. For those who like to make their romantic getaways more “official,” the crew of the Star Clipper can do a vow renewal ceremony onboard.

To further enhance the romance quotient, guests booking any Star Clippers sailing by February 29, 2020 will receive a complimentary couples’ massage, a bottle of champagne and sweet treats in their cabin. This offer is combinable with other Star Clippers offers.

Star Clippers Named World’s Leading Green Cruise in 2019 World Travel Awards

Miami, FL (December 2019) — Star Clippers is pleased to announce that they have taken home three top honors in the 2019 World Travel Awards: World’s Leading Green Cruise, World’s Leading Specialist Cruise Line and Worlds Leading Luxury Sailing Cruise Company. This year marks the seventh time Star Clippers has won the World’s Leading Luxury Sailing Company and the sixth time for World’s Leading Green Cruise.

Also Named Leading Luxury Sailing Cruise and Specialist Cruise Company

“We are thrilled to be recognized by the World Travel Awards year after year for our commitment to environmentally responsible sailing practices and a truly unique cruise experience,” said Mirell Reyes, President of Star Clippers America. “Star Clippers cruises marry the authenticity of a true sailing vessels with the luxury amenities of a private yacht, giving guests the best of both worlds.”

Star Clippers ships are green by design—as real sailing vessels designed after historic clipper ships, they travel under wind power whenever possible, up to 80% of the time on any given itinerary. When the ships do need to navigate under the power of their energy-efficient engines, they only utilize very pure, high-quality, low-sulfur gas oil for which the line was awarded the International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate. Star Flyer was the first ship in the world to receive this certificate, with Star Clipper and Royal Clipper following. The ships’ small size also contributes to a smaller carbon footprint. Unlike cruise ships that carry upward of six thousand passengers, Star Flyer and Star Clipper carry only 170 passengers, and 227 passengers on Royal Clipper, which means less water consumed and less waste produced.

World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Today, the World Travel Awards brand is recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.

For nearly 30 years, Star Clippers has been introducing travelers to the thrill of modern tall ship sailing to remote ports in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Indonesia and Far East.
