A Week In… Copenhagen & Oslo

Tour Description:

A tale of two Nordic capitals – where design, history, and quiet magic unfold. Some places whisper their beauty instead of shouting it. Copenhagen and Oslo are two such cities – refined and radiant, shaped by sea light and soulful stories. In Denmark, fairytales feel close enough to touch, from copper-spired palaces to the carousel lights of Tivoli Gardens. In Norway, fjord breezes carry the scent of pine and possibility, and Munch's brushstrokes reveal the heart of a nation.

This is a journey made in harmony – by foot, by ferry, by flight, through sculpture parks, royal quarters, waterfront neighborhoods, and the quiet spaces in between. You'll visit a palace lit by candlelight, dine in a Moorish jewel tucked beside Tivoli Gardens, and stroll through cities that value balance: between old and new, movement and stillness, nature and art. In Copenhagen, the streets hum with bicycle bells and Danish ease, while in Oslo, forested hills frame glassy fjords and bold urban skylines. Explore the world of Hans Christian Andersen in the town where he was born, stand before The Scream, sail past storybook islands, and sit down to meals that speak the language of place – local, fresh, rooted in tradition yet ever evolving.

ITINERARY

Arrive in Copenhagen
Tour begins: 6:00 PM, Radisson Collection Royal Hotel. Welcome to Denmark, land of timeless fairy tales and sleek modern design. Upon arrival, a transfer is included to the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel, a true one-of-a-kind. Designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1960, this mid-century icon is more than a hotel – it's a living legacy of Scandinavian minimalism, with thoughtful details and quiet glamour throughout. This evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a welcome reception and dinner your– first taste of Denmark's legendary hospitality and culinary craft.

Copenhagen by land and water
Wake to the rhythm of bicycles and Baltic breezes. Today's explorations begin with a guided walking tour through Copenhagen's historic core, featuring a visit to Christiansborg Palace – once a royal residence and now home to the Danish Parliament and Supreme Court. Marble halls and gilded chambers tell stories of monarchy, democracy, and the delicate dance between the two. Take to the water on a scenic canal cruise. Drift through centuries of architecture – past copper spires, beneath arched stone bridges, and alongside the Little Mermaid statue, whose wistful gaze toward the sea captures something eternal. Lunch is served in Nyhavn, the city's most photogenic harbor, where 17th-century townhouses in Easter-egg colors line the waterfront. Afterward, enjoy an afternoon visit to Tivoli Gardens, one of the world's oldest amusement parks. Whether you wander its rose gardens or pause beneath its twinkling lanterns, Tivoli invites you to slip into a slower, more enchanted rhythm. You're free to dine within the park or return to the hotel – the evening is yours to savor as you please.

A day in Odense and a castle dinner
Today, journey west to Odense, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. Your guided visit includes his modest childhood home and the immersive Hans Christian Andersen Museum, where innovative exhibits and dreamlike displays reveal the life behind the legend – his poverty, imagination, heartbreak, and brilliance. Lunch in town is followed by a return to Copenhagen and an unforgettable evening. Join us in a private mansion, a neoclassical estate rich with Danish noble history filled with ornate interiors, flickering candlelight, and curated cuisine that set the tone for a sparkling evening – a rare opportunity to experience the elegance of royal-era Copenhagen in true Tauck style.

Copenhagen's Latin Quarter and dinner at Nimb
Begin your final morning in Denmark with a guided walking tour of the Latin Quarter – a neighborhood where 17th-century buildings house modern bookstores, cozy cafés, and hidden courtyards echoing with history. It's a part of the city that feels lived-in and loved, offering a slower, more local look at Copenhagen's layered soul. You'll have the afternoon free to explore – perhaps return to Nyhavn, shop the chic boutiques along Strøget, or settle into a sunlit corner with coffee and cardamom buns. Tonight's farewell to Copenhagen is held at Nimb, a Moorish-inspired jewel tucked beside Tivoli Gardens. With turrets and arched windows glowing in the evening light, this 1909 landmark blends romantic architecture with modern Nordic cuisine – a dining experience as memorable as the journey itself.

Fly to Oslo
Enjoy a light lunch onboard your flight as you make your way from Denmark to Norway. Upon arrival in Oslo, you'll be greeted by your local guide and set off on a walking tour through one of the city's vibrant neighborhoods. Here, cobbled streets meet cutting-edge design; leafy parks frame glassy opera houses. Oslo's energy is subtle but strong – a capital that hums with calm confidence and clean, contemporary beauty. This evening, step into the pages of Norway's cultural history with dinner at Engebret Café, Oslo's oldest restaurant, dating back to 1857. Candlelit and steeped in atmosphere, this storied venue once served icons like Ibsen, Grieg, and Munch. Tonight, it's yours to enjoy.

A fjord cruise and Oslo's artistic pulse
This morning begins on the water, with a fjord cruise through the scenic Oslofjord. Your local guide shares insight as you drift past rocky islets, forested shores, and quiet marinas – a chance to see the city from the sea, the way Norwegians have for centuries. A sweet local treat may find its way to your hands as you cruise. Back on land, delve into Norway's dedication to peace and art. At the Nobel Peace Center, multimedia exhibits honor the global figures who have shaped our world through dialogue, justice, and courage. Continue to the National Museum, where a visit to the Munch floor reveals a powerful collection of Norway's most expressive painter. There, you'll find The Scream, along with other masterpieces that trace Munch's intimate, often haunting exploration of emotion, nature, and human vulnerability. After lunch, return to the hotel where the rest of the afternoon and evening are yours.

Vigeland Sculpture Park and Gol Stave Church
This morning, board your coach for a panoramic tour through Oslo's cultural landmarks. Begin at the extraordinary Vigeland Sculpture Park, where over 200 bronze and granite works by Gustav Vigeland capture the full range of human experience – from joy to sorrow, youth to age – set among manicured gardens and quiet groves. Continue to the Gol Stave Church, a stunning medieval wooden structure originally built in the 13th century and painstakingly relocated to Oslo's folk museum. Its intricate carvings and soaring rooflines reflect Norway's spiritual traditions and architectural ingenuity. This evening, join us for a farewell reception and dinner back at the Grand Hotel – a time to toast to new friends, unforgettable stories, and the light that lives in the North.

Journey Home
Your journey ends in Oslo. A transfer is included from the Grand Hotel Oslo to Oslo Airport. Please allow at least three hours for check-in before your flight.
