Relax aboard ‘Athos,’ a charming vessel converted from an authentic wine barge. Enjoy your pleasingly bright cabin and the spacious, canopied sun deck as you absorb the beauty and history of the Canal du Midi. View the Camargue wetlands, visit medieval Carcassonne, taste olive oil where it is pressed and sample vermouth at the distillery of Noilly Prat. Art, family, golf, tennis and wine theme cruises can be arranged for groups with special interests.

ITINERARY

SUNDAY
Meet in Béziers, where you embark on charming ‘Athos,’ converted from an authentic wine barge, moored in the port of Argeliers. Enjoy a Champagne reception upon boarding.

MONDAY
Disembark for a guided walk through the medieval walled city of Carcassonne. Later in the day, after continuing your cruise along the historic canal, moor at La Croissade for the night. 

TUESDAY
Go ashore to visit the L’Oulibo cooperative for a tasting of organic olives and olive oils accompanied by a glass of wine. Visit the hilltop village of Minerve, site of a medieval Cathar fortress. Later, cruise to the quaint village of Capestang.

WEDNESDAY
Enjoy a morning visit to a lively and colorful indoor market in Narbonne, followed by lunch ashore. This afternoon, negotiate the seven-lock staircase at Fonserrannes, experiencing this marvel of 17th-century engineering firsthand.

THURSDAY
Visit the market town of Pézanas and view the uniquely striking architecture of the local mansions once owned by nobles of the Languedoc court. Also discover the town’s history with legendary French playwright Molière, who once lived here, and then cruise to Portiragnes.

FRIDAY
Today, cruise through the estuaries of the “Petit Camargue,” a bird watcher’s paradise. Moor in the port at Marseillan to tour the Noilly Prat vermouth distillery and enjoy a tasting, and then return to your vessel for the Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

SATURDAY
After breakfast on board, bid ‘Athos’ adieu and disembark in Marseillan for your transfer back to Béziers.
