ITINERARY

Day: 1
Meet in Inverness for transfer to Scottish Highlander, moored at Muirtown. After a welcome reception, cruise along the picturesque, heather-lined canal.

Day: 2
At Culloden Moor, see the site of the last major battle on British soil in 1746.

Day: 3
Visit 14th-century Cawdor Castle with its beautifully landscaped gardens and superb collection of tapestries, paintings and furniture. Cruise Loch Ness in search of its infamous monster — said to inhabit the murky waters, which are over 700 feet deep. Visit the imposing ruins of Urquhart Castle, set on a rocky peninsula on the banks of Loch Ness, making a scenic stop at Invermoriston Falls.

Day: 4
Cruise up a staircase of five locks in the village of Fort Augustus, continuing to the pretty village of Cullochy. Experience a falconry display at the Highland Club, getting up close and personal with an array of birds demonstrating their flying skills. Dinner is ashore tonight at a local restaurant.

Day: 5
Explore romantic Eilean Donan Castle this morning, the idyllic setting for films such as Highlander and James Bond's The World Is Not Enough. Cruise on scenic Loch Oich to Laggan Locks, the overnight mooring.

Day: 6
Cruise across Loch Lochy, passing through the locks of Neptune's Staircase, to moor at Banavie. Visit Dalwhinnie Distillery, renowned for its single malts, for a whisky tasting. Later, gather for a farewell dinner on board your barge.

Day: 7
After breakfast, transfer to Inverness where your journey ends.
