Buzios Brazil

A glamorous peninsula of white-sand coves where a former fishing village became Brazil's answer to the French Riviera

About the Port

Búzios sits on a small peninsula east of Rio de Janeiro, its coastline scalloped into more than twenty beaches ranging from calm, family-friendly bays to surf-swept stretches favored by windsurfers. The village remained a quiet fishing outpost until the 1960s, when French actor Brigitte Bardot's visit drew international attention and set it on a path toward becoming one of Brazil's most fashionable coastal escapes. Cobblestone lanes, colorful facades, and a laid-back seaside rhythm still recall its origins.

Today the town pairs that easy charm with a more polished edge: boutique shops, seafood restaurants, and beach clubs line the main streets and waterfront promenade, known locally as Rua das Pedras. Sailboats and schooners depart regularly for excursions around the peninsula's coves. The historic center is compact and walkable, making it easy to explore on foot before settling in at a café to watch the harbor traffic drift by.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Buzios Brazil.

Sail the Peninsula's Coves

Board a schooner from the harbor for a half-day loop past secluded coves and turquoise inlets, with stops for swimming along the way. Book ahead, as popular departures fill quickly.

Beach-Hop Along the Coast

Compare the calm, family-friendly waters of Ferradura or Ossos with the surf and wind at Geribá, a short taxi ride from the center. Each cove has its own character worth sampling.

Stroll Rua das Pedras

Wander this cobblestone spine of the old fishing village, lined with boutiques, galleries, and open-air cafés perfect for lingering over a coffee while watching harbor life unfold.
