Gaspe

A wild edge of the Gaspé Peninsula where towering sea cliffs, seabird colonies, and centuries of maritime history meet

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Gaspé sits at the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula in eastern Quebec, where the Saint Lawrence River meets the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Jacques Cartier landed here in 1534 and claimed the territory for France, a history still traced through local monuments and museums near the harbor. The town serves as a natural gateway to Forillon National Park and the offshore waters near Percé Rock, one of the region's most recognizable natural landmarks.

Beyond the pier, travelers find a compact downtown anchored by the Cathédrale du Christ-Roi, notable for its almost entirely wooden construction. Nearby Bonaventure Island shelters one of North America's largest colonies of northern gannets, drawing birdwatchers each year. Rugged coastline, lighthouses, and boreal forest define the wider peninsula, making Gaspé a fitting introduction to Quebec's remote maritime frontier.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Gaspe.

Explore Forillon National Park

Cliffside trails, pebble beaches, and boreal forest meet at land's end; a short drive from the pier leads to hiking paths and chances to spot seals along the shore.

Cruise to Percé Rock and Bonaventure Island

Boat excursions from Gaspé reach the towering offshore monolith and the seabird sanctuary beyond, home to tens of thousands of nesting northern gannets. Book ahead, as tours run for several hours.

Step Inside the Wooden Cathedral

Cathédrale du Christ-Roi's soaring, almost entirely wood-built interior is a short walk from the harbor and offers an easy, worthwhile stop before heading further afield.
