About the Port
Tucked into a sheltered cove on the Italian Riviera, Portofino began as a modest fishing village and grew into one of the coast's most photographed harbors. Pastel houses rise around the Piazzetta, the cobbled square at its heart, where cafés and small boutiques face a marina often filled with yachts. A short uphill walk leads to the Church of St. George, perched above the water with views over the harbor and headland.
Beyond the square, the wider Ligurian coastline unfolds in quiet coves and steep, green hillsides dotted with villas. Nearby Santa Margherita Ligure offers a similar seaside elegance with a longer promenade and pebbled beachfront. Portofino itself is compact and best explored on foot, with the harbor, church, and main piazza all within easy walking distance of the tender landing.
