Tokyo (Yokohama), Japan

Japan's historic gateway port opens onto Tokyo's skyline and Yokohama's own blend of old and new

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Yokohama has served as Tokyo's maritime gateway since it became one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade in the nineteenth century, a legacy still visible in its cosmopolitan character. The port city's large Chinatown draws visitors with hundreds of shops and restaurants, while Sankei-en Garden preserves historic residences relocated from across Japan amid pond-side landscaping. The waterfront Minato Mirai district adds a modern skyline of glass towers and harbor views to the older quarters nearby.

Beyond the port, Tokyo itself lies within easy reach, its observation decks offering sweeping views over one of the world's largest metropolitan areas. Travelers typically find Yokohama's Chinatown and central sights within walking distance of the pier, making the port a convenient base for exploring both the city's own heritage and the greater capital region beyond.

Ride to Tokyo Skytree

At 2,080 feet, this is one of the world's tallest towers, with observation decks offering sweeping views over the capital. Reach it by train from Yokohama in about 40 minutes; book timed tickets ahead to skip long queues.

Wander Yokohama Chinatown

One of the largest Chinatowns in Asia, its ornate gates open onto lanes packed with steaming dumpling stalls and family-run restaurants. It sits within easy walking distance of the pier, ideal for a leisurely first stop.

Stroll Sankei-en Garden

Historic farmhouses, teahouses, and a three-story pagoda relocated from across Japan surround ponds and seasonal plantings. Allow about two hours to wander the paths; a short bus or taxi ride from the port gets you there.
