ITINERARY

Welcome to Auckland
Welcome to Auckland, New Zealand’s City of Sails. Meet your Travel Director and set out on a city sights tour to get acquainted with this harbourside hub. You’ll see historic Parnell, the Auckland Museum and Domain, along with Wynyard Quarter and Viaduct Harbour. This evening, join your fellow travellers for dinner and drinks as you toast the journey ahead.

Discover Rotorua
Leave Auckland behind and journey south to Rotorua, where New Zealand’s geothermal heart beats loud and clear. Geysers burst from the earth, mud pools bubble and steam rises from the ground in dramatic plumes. This afternoon is yours to choose how you’d like to explore, whether that’s a visit to Wai Ariki Hot Springs & Spa, a lake tour by amphibious vehicle or a low-impact zipline adventure through ancient forest, all at your own expense. Later, delve into Māori culture during the Te Pō Indigenous Experience at Te Puia. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience includes a powerful cultural performance in the carved meeting house Te Aronui a Rua, views of the remarkable Pohutu Geyser and a buffet dinner inspired by hāngī flavours and locally sourced ingredients.

Māori Culture in Rotorua
Today brings a meaningful connection to the natural world and the stories woven through it. At Whirinaki Forest, join local Māori guides for a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience that introduces the traditions and history of the Ngāti Manawa people. Walk beneath towering native trees, including ancient tōtara, and learn about the forest’s role as a source of medicine, food and identity. Hear birdsong in the canopy, fill your water bottle from a pure waterfall and enjoy a picnic lunch inspired by traditional flavours in a ‘Forest to Fork’ experience. Continue on to Napier, New Zealand’s Art Deco capital.

Explore Napier
Napier wears its history beautifully. Rebuilt after the devastating 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake, the city is now one of the world’s best-preserved Art Deco centres, with striking buildings shaped by the style and spirit of the era. On a private walking tour with a local guide from the Art Deco Trust, uncover the stories behind the facades and gain deeper insight into the people and events that shaped the city. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience supports the preservation of Napier’s unique architectural heritage. Later, perhaps choose to visit Hawke’s Bay wineries or head out to the world’s largest mainland gannet colony, both at your own expense.

Journey to Wairarapa
Travel south into Wairarapa, a region known for its boutique vineyards, rural charm and star-filled skies. Along the way, stop at the iconic Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka, where beer has been brewed since 1889. Then continue to Masterton for your overnight stay. Later, visit boutique winery Urlar, where your hosts Tess and Brian share the story behind their wines. Enjoy a tasting of local drops made on site, paired with a seasonal platter overlooking the lake and surrounding vines.

Onwards Wellington
Meet Karly, a fifth-generation beekeeper, at Greytown Honey for a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience that offers a closer look at one of New Zealand’s most celebrated natural products. Discover how honey goes from hive to jar on a guided factory tour, watch a live demonstration and sample award-winning varieties including Mānuka and native floral honeys. You’ll even create your own jar to take home. Afterwards, spend time in Greytown, a charming town known for its Victorian architecture, independent shops and inviting cafes. Then continue to Wellington. On arrival, take an orientation tour and head up Mount Victoria, where sweeping harbour and city views reveal why Wellington leaves such a lasting impression.

Wellington onto Blenheim
Cross the Cook Strait today, cruising from the North Island to the South through the calm waters of Queen Charlotte Sound. The maze of inlets and forested hills makes for a spectacular arrival into Marlborough. Continue to Blenheim, often named New Zealand’s sunniest town and known for its vineyards and aviation heritage. This afternoon, visit Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, where rare World War I and II aircraft and memorabilia are brought to life through immersive displays created with Wtā Workshop.

Blenheim, It's All Yours
Today is yours to explore Marlborough your way. You might choose a wine tour through the region’s famous vineyards or board the iconic Mail Boat, which delivers post and supplies to remote residents along Queen Charlotte Sound while offering beautiful scenery, wildlife encounters and fascinating local insight, both at your own expense.

Kaikōura to Christchurch
Follow the coast south towards Kaikōura, where the mountains meet the sea in one of New Zealand’s most dramatic landscapes. This stretch of shoreline is known for its marine life, and you may be lucky enough to spot sea lions or even a sperm whale offshore. Continue on to Christchurch, a city that has reinvented itself with creativity and resilience. This evening is free for you to explore its dining scene, with plenty of recommendations available from your Travel Director.

Discover Christchurch and Lake Ōhau
Discover Christchurch’s city sights before heading into the Mackenzie Basin, where alpine scenery and brilliant blue lakes define the landscape. Stop at Lake Tekapo to see the Church of the Good Shepherd, one of the South Island’s most photographed landmarks. Then enjoy a special Be My Guest experience at the lakeside home of Angie and Stan Taylor. Over afternoon tea, Angie shares her legendary pavlova and her take on the famous trans-Tasman debate, while Stan reflects on a lifetime of farming in this remarkable region. Later, continue to Lake Ōhau Lodge, where wilderness surrounds you and a family-style dinner is served beside lake views and a cosy open fire.

Queenstown
Travel through Lindis Pass towards Cromwell, with wide open country and changing light guiding the way. Stop at the Jones Family fruit stall for fresh local produce before visiting Highlands Museum, where motoring history and innovation come together in a way that appeals to enthusiasts and first-timers alike. Continue to Arrowtown, a heritage village shaped by the gold rush, then arrive in Queenstown. Lunch is at your leisure, with the chance to visit cult favourite Fergburger, known for its generous gourmet burgers and lively atmosphere.

Queenstown, It's All Yours
Queenstown is yours to enjoy today. For those drawn to adrenaline, this is the place to lean in, perhaps with a thrilling jet boat ride at your own expense. If your pace is a little slower, you might choose to visit a wildlife centre and get closer to some of New Zealand’s unique birdlife, also at your own expense. However you spend it, Queenstown’s lakeside setting and mountain backdrop make every moment feel special.

Onwards Milford Sound
Travel south along the Devil’s Staircase, where the road curves beside Lake Wakatipu through landscapes that are dramatic even by New Zealand standards. Pass through Te Anau and into Fiordland National Park, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site of immense natural beauty. Along the way, see Mirror Lakes and travel through the hand-hewn Homer Tunnel before arriving in Milford Sound. Tonight, stay on board the Milford Mariner for an overnight cruise that reveals the fiord in a different light. With fewer crowds and more time on the water, you’ll take in waterfalls, rainforest, towering peaks and native wildlife with guidance from a specialist nature expert. There’s also the chance to explore by kayak or tender. On board, relax in the observation lounge, take in the views from the spacious decks and enjoy a three-course buffet dinner followed by a cooked breakfast in one of the world’s most extraordinary settings.

Explore Wānaka
Farewell Milford Sound and travel on to Wānaka, a town that blends natural beauty with an easygoing atmosphere. Set on the shores of Lake Wānaka beneath the Southern Alps, it’s a place where the scenery does a lot of the talking. Your hotel is centrally located, making it easy to explore the village and stroll down to the lakefront, with cafes and restaurants close by.

Fox Glacier Township
Leave Wānaka behind and travel past Lake Hāwea and the alpine settlement of Makarora, where river valleys and rainforest shape the landscape. Crossing Haast Pass, you’ll enter a region where mountains, forest and glaciers create one of the South Island’s most memorable journeys. Arrive in Fox Glacier Township, where you may wish to take an optional scenic flight over Fox and Franz Josef Glacier/Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere. Weather permitting, there may even be the chance to land on the glacier, at your own expense.

Journey to Christchurch
This morning, there’s another chance to take to the skies on an optional scenic flight over Fox and Franz Josef Glacier/Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere, weather permitting and at your own expense. Then begin your journey north along the West Coast, passing rainforest, wild beaches and the creative town of Hokitika, known for its greenstone and laid-back feel. From there, turn inland and travel through the Southern Alps. As you climb towards Arthur’s Pass, the scenery transforms from lush forest to rocky gorges, alpine peaks and open tussock country. Keep watch for kea along the way, the world’s only alpine parrot and one of New Zealand’s most playful native birds. Arrive back in Christchurch this evening and join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a farewell dinner to mark the end of your journey.

Farewell Christchurch
Your New Zealand adventure comes to a close today. From Māori culture and vineyard visits to alpine lakes, coastal wildlife and the majesty of Milford Sound, this has been a journey rich in contrasts and connections. Say farewell to Christchurch and take home memories of a country that leaves a deep impression long after you’ve returned home.
