Newsflash, In somewhat of a surprise Crystal Cruises has been acquired by Genting which among other things is an Asian gaming company.
Genting currently has a portfolio of other cruise lines. They own some 28 percent of NCL Holdings. NCL Holdings late in 2014 purchased Oceania Cruise Lines and Regent Seven Seas. NCL Holdings also owns Norwegian Cruise Lines.
The purchase price will be some $550 million in cash. Sounds like a great deal for Genting. Published sources say Genting is paying some $276,000 per lower berth. It’s also been reported that Genting plans to add another ship to the Crystal Cruise Line fleet of 2 ships. It’s not mentioned if the additional Crystal ship will be a new build or not. Plans are to keep the current management at Crystal.
